It was a cold morning, but the sun was shining brightly on a group of newly arrived refugees as they strolled down Queen Street, Campbelltown last week.
Together with Macarthur Diversity Services Initiative (MDSI) , SSI Housing organised a bus tour and excursion around the Campbelltown LGA to assist our newest community members to learn about housing, education and employment opportunities outside of the traditional settlement areas of Fairfield and Liverpool.
The morning commenced with a meet and greet at MDSI office in Campbelltown, and an information session with representatives from Centrelink, Campbelltown City Council, SSI Ability Links and MDSI services.
Following morning tea, the group was taken to a number of prominent locations in Campbelltown including the CBD retail area and Eagle Vale Leisure Centre. The bus tour highlighted Campbelltown’s many services and sights including churches, mosques and community centres. The group also viewed a local rental property, and were surprised its large sized and affordability.
An enjoyable and successful day was finished off with lunch at El Jannah Lebanese restaurant – a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike.
